Tom Cruise in line for $520m

TOM Cruise has become the highest-earning actor in Hollywood history after signing a deal that could earn him a staggering $520 million for his role in War of the Worlds.

Rather than agree to a set fee for his part in the Steven Spielberg-directed epic, Cruise will earn 10 per cent of the film’s box office takings plus a share of profits from DVDs, video games and toys.

And here’s how much this amount would be in UK pounds. 🙂

Cruise strikes War of Worlds deal
Tom Cruise is hardly short of cash, but he could make another £200 million by starring in Steven Spielberg’s planned version of The War of the Worlds.

Cruise isn’t getting a fee for the job, but will earn 10% of the film’s gross takings as well as a share of the merchandising.

By getting a cut of the gross rather than the net profits, Cruise is virtually guaranteed a big payday.

During the making of Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks struck a similar deal and took home something like £30 million, while author Winston Groom had a net deal and made about £200,000.
