The War of the Worlds to Get a New Title?

Dutch distributor UIP is reporting that the anticipated Paramount adaptation of H.G. Well’s 1989 novel, The War of the Worlds, is now going by a new title – “Out of the Night”. The Steven Spielberg-directed film, starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning, is slated for a Summer 2005 release date.

Besides the studio actually renaming the film (which would probably lead to a negative fan reaction), several other things can be happening instead.

The movie starts shooting in November and “Out of the Night” could be its title during production, to keep unwanted guests away from set locations, among other things. Also, movies are often named differently overseas, which could be another possibility.

The studio had no comment on the “Out of the Night” title.
