Hey guys! I’m back! And guess what happened? I was amongst the audience to watch Jamie Foxx on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno having no idea that Tom Cruise would make a surprise appearance. I MET TOM CRUISE! Well technically! You can hear me having a heart attack when you watch the show, of course, you can visit the forums with my detailed encounter!
On to the news.
Collateral Cast will be on Good Morning America all this week. All the Entertainment shows are having a Collateral week, don’t forget to check that out.
Now comes Collateral, a 21st Century crime noir thriller in which Tom Cruise plays a hitman who’s really good at killing people. It seems somehow appropriate that Cruise and co-star Jamie Foxx are both at the top of their game, since director Mann returns to the stylish suspense drama that made him a top filmmaker to begin with. Despite being contrived and predictable at times, Collateral ultimately succeeds as a beautifully shot, well-acted and thoroughly engrossing psychological drama that closes the noteworthy part of the summer movie season with a veritable bang.”
“The main selling point of this movie isn’t Michael Mann’s name, but rather getting to see Tom Cruise play a bad guy. Is he good when he’s bad? You better believe it. One thing I’ve always said about Cruise is that he gives 110% in all of his performances, regardless of how strong or weak the script may be. This film holds true to that theory. Cruise maintains his attractive leading man qualities, but takes us down a different road entirely. Watching him work is fascinating, particularly through the eyes of Michael Mann.”
I’m always getting e-mails from people asking where the premieres will be…., and those are for Collateral (thanks Kat!!) :
Also, Tom will be taping The Late Show with David Letterman on the 4th, at the Ed Sullivan Theatre at 4PM.
Sources say J.J. Abrams is the new guy in Tom Cruise’s life
Sources for Coming Attractions report that J.J. Abrams, the creator of ABC’s hit spy series ALIAS, is the new director of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3. Abrams replaces Joe Carnahan who left the project due ot creative differences earlier this week. M:I 3 is scheduled to begin filming in Berlin next month.
This would be Abrams first turn as a director on a feature film but not behind the camera. He’s directed several episodes of ALIAS, FELICITY and his upcoming new TV series LOST, so he should have the technical skill to step up to the plate and get a hit.
M:I 3 will see the return of Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt and Ving Rhames as pal/agent Luther Stickwell. Carrie-Anne Moss (THE MATRIX), Kenneth Branagh (HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS), Scarlett Johansson (LOST IN TRANSLATION) also star in the film.

Your Mission: Find a New Director
Tom Cruise’s latest mission is to find a director for his third “Mission: Impossible” movie.
Cruise, who is the executive producer of “Mission: Impossible 3,” is still set to begin shooting next month in Berlin, but no longer with “Narc” director Joe Carnahan, who co-wrote the script with Frank Darabont.
The director dropped out with the unspecific “creative differences” excuse — a vague catchphrase much like the general “irreconcilable differences” reason used in divorce cases. Cruise is known for being a stickler with directors and writers, especially when he’s producing, like he last did with “The Last Samurai.”
Cruise will next be seen Aug. 6 in director Michael Mann’s “Collateral,” which Cruise is not producing.
Paramount Pictures vice chairman Rob Friedman confirms that the film remains on schedule, despite the loss of the director who became known for his gritty violent indie cop thriller in 2002. Carnahan wasn’t the first to drop out of the second sequel to the blockbuster hit, which adapts the 1960’s TV show. “Fight Club” and “Panic Room” director David Fincher dropped out of the project last year.
Brian DePalma directed the 1996 first “Mission: Impossible” which brought in a box office total of $180 million. Cruise reprised his role as Ethan Hunt in the sequel directed by John Woo in 2000 which earned $215 mil domestically.
Scarlett Johansson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Kenneth Branagh and Ving Rhames are supposed to star in the “MI-3” film, which is now moving from May to June 29, 2005 for its planned release date.

Collateral is, by far, the darkest big summer release in a long time. But the sheer transformative genius of Michael Mann makes it the summer’s unavoidable viewing experience for cinema lovers, along with Fahrenheit 9/11 which is also a master’s class in technique, although Mann’s work is infinitely more honest than Moore’s……
….Tom Cruise gives a really strong performance here, much in the mode of his very underrated turn in Interview With The Vampire, but this vampire is much less subject to flights of fancy.
