Mission: Impossible 3 Takes June 29 Spot
Source: ComingSoon.net

Paramount Pictures has moved the Tom Cruise sequel Mission: Impossible 3 back seven weeks, to June 29. The film was previously scheduled to open on May 6.

With Sony’s Spider-Man 2 grossing $40.5 million on its opening Wednesday, and heading for a six-day total in the $150 million-plus range (which would set a record), the 4th of July holiday weekend is looking a lot better to the studio, says Variety.

The shift sets up a confrontation between Paramount’s spy franchise and 20th Century Fox’s comic book actioner Fantastic Four over next year’s Fourth of July weekend. “M:I-3” will open on a Wednesday, while Fantastic Four is set to debut two days later.

“M:I-3” is expected to opent day and date worldwide. Filming will begin next month.

  • Collateral to open Urban Film Festival

    Everywhere:
Tom Cruise’s new thriller, “Collateral,” will open the eighth annual Urbanworld Film Festival Aug. 4 in Manhattan.

Cruise plays a contract killer who hijacks Jamie Foxx’s taxicab. Jada Pinkett Smith and Mark Ruffalo also star in the movie, directed by Michael Mann, which is scheduled to open in theaters on Aug 6.

“‘Collateral’ is the perfect film to open this year’s Urbanworld,” festival founder Stacy Spikes said in a statement Monday. “This picture illustrates what the term ‘urban’ truly represents in 2004. Urban is about sensibility, not just ethnicity.”

The five-day festival will include live staged reading, panel discussions and feature, documentary and short film screenings. It also will have the Actor’s Spotlight, with previous honorees including Samuel L. Jackson, Billy Dee Williams, Vondie Curtis Hall and Rosie Perez.

Report From LA Film Festival’s Collateral Preview

    Source: Coming Soon

On Friday, June 18, director Michael Mann and Tom Cruise made an appearance at Hollywood’s Pacific Theatre as part of the Los Angeles Film Festival to talk about their upcoming movie, Collateral. The evening was called “Michael Mann’s Los Angeles: Realizing Collateral”. One of our readers, ‘Kevin Copelan’, attended the show and filled us in on what we missed (Minor Spoilers Ahead):

I attended this special evening at the Pacific Theater in Hollywood. Tom Cruise, Michael Mann, and actor Barry Shabaka Henley were there, and Kenneth Turan of the L.A. Times was the moderator. Jamie Foxx was a no show because his grandmother was ill. It was a full house with not one seat open in the whole theatre, and they started by showing clips from old films that depict Los Angeles. The first clip shown was Kiss Me Deadly (1955) chosen by the moderator, followed by Touch of Evil (1958) picked by Mann. Cruise picked a clip from Sunset Boulevard of a body in a pool, and Beverly Hills Cop was picked by Barry Shabaka Henley.

They showed a lot of extended clips from Collateral–the look of film is amazing! Michael Mann told Turan that 85% of the film was done with a digital camera so that they could manipulate certain scenes for the film. The Korean disco scene two-thirds through the film is a real keeper. Jada Pinkett Smith plays a taxicab passenger that Max, Jamie Foxx’s character, is making a play for. That scene probably occurs before Max picks up Vincent, the killer played by Tom Cruise.

The evening finished with a Q and A session and an extended trailer, which I believe has not been shown before then. In closing, there is no way this film can get a PG-13 rating, since it’s too violent.

The star-studded event will be held on Wednesday, August 4 at the Magic Johnson Theaters in the heart of uptown Manhattan with principal cast and filmmakers in attendance.

COLLATERAL is the perfect film to open this year’s Urbanworld. Not only because of the explosion of talent both in front of and behind the camera. But, because this picture illustrates what the term ‘urban’ truly represents in 2004,” explained festival founder Stacy Spikes. “‘Urban’ is about sensibility, not just ethnicity. Cruise Gets Permission to Shoot M:I-3 at Reichstag

    Tom gets Reichstag

Authorities in Berlin have told Hollywood star Tom Cruise that he can, after all, use the historic Reichstag in shooting for his Mission Impossible 3.

A German parliament spokesman said that after talks with Babelsberg Studios, Cruise could shoot some scenes outside the Reichstag and on the steps.

    However, the conditions are tight.

The interior of the parliament building, including its famous dome, is to remain off-limits, Speaker Wolfgang Thierse said, fearing that shooting inside for Hollywood fiction would demean its stature.

Moreover, filming can only take place during the parliamentary recess, and final approval will depend on the script, the spokesman said.

Cruise visited the Reichstag, in the heart of the German capital near the former site of the Berlin Wall, in April, and was apparently enthused.

Formally opened on December 5, 1894, the Reichstag only just survived the Nazi era and was heavily bombed during World War II.

It did not become a parliament again until 1999, nine years after Germany was reunified.
