Part of Cruise’s movie to film locally

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz will be landing in Bridgewater later this month to film a portion of their new movie in a cornfield off Curve Street.

The scene will show Cruise, Diaz and others in the aftermath of a plane crash as part of the movie, called the “Untitled Wichita Project.”

Estimated time of arrival: Sept. 24 at 3 p.m.

The production company is already preparing the 263-acre site owned by the Haseotes family.

“Right now we’re plowing the corn as if the plane has already crashed and, starting next week, we’ll start building the road that we can work off,” said Hyunsoon Moon, assistant location manager for 20th Century Films, at a selectmen’s meeting Tuesday night.

Moon said the company is working with Bridgewater police and fire departments to maneuver the plane in three pieces down Curve Street and onto the field on Sept. 11. Members of the police and fire departments will have a chance to work as extras in the movie, he said.

Also on site during the two-day shoot will be 100 to 150 workers and their vehicles, 20 semi-trailer trucks and camper offices. Moon said they hope to use a 10-acre lot nearby for parking, noting, “It will be very much self-contained.”

The site should be ready for production on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25, starting at 3 p.m. on both days and ending at 6 a.m. the following mornings.

Selectman Mike Demos asked Moon if the neighbors would be affected.

“During the night we will have some pyrotechnic work; there might be some kind of noise during the night,” said Moon.

But, he said it won’t be very close to any homes since the crash is supposed to occur in a remote area.

“It’s supposed to be in the middle of a big gigantic cornfield,” said Moon, noting that he will be distributing fliers to the neighbors with a schedule and contact information.

Moon says the production company should be leaving town by Oct. 9 and that, when the scene is finished, they will be discarding the plane.
