Tom was honored with the MTV Generation Award, MTV’s first lifetime achievement award, who accepted it from his girlfriend Katie Holmes.
She showed a good sense of humour when she poked fun at his “Oprah” appearance by dropping down on one knee in celebration and asking the crowd “Should I go get him?”
Laughing, Tom moved slowly through his remarks and told yelling audience members, “Let me speak. If I’ve been able to entertain you at all, OK, then, I thank you for allowing me to do so,” he said.
The awards were based on fan votes and the show will be broadcast June 9th.

And apparently Tom shattered a tooth while playing with Connor and a play mate. Tom claims his playtime-induced injury is the worst he has ever suffered. “We were playing ‘ogre’ – I’m the ogre and I capture the kids, then they become the ogre and they’ve got to catch me,” he said. “So I’m running up this big slide, not realizing there’s a steel bar at the top. I go sprinting up, turn around and bam! It’s knocked me out and knocked my tooth out, shattering it. My nose is swollen and I’ve got blood pouring out of my mouth. I’ve got my son there and his friend, and my concern is not to freak them out. So I say, ‘OK boys. Well, that was fun. Now let’s go home. It’s getting late.” southflorida.com, contactmusic.com.
