Tom Cruise: Katie-Less at Golden Globes

Talk about being double-booked: Tom Cruise has a big night on Jan. 11, as he’s nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes for his bit part in Tropic Thunder, but meanwhile, his wife and almost constant companion Katie Holmes has her last performance of All My Sons on Broadway that same night.

What’s a TomKat couple to do?

Katie’s decided to stay and her do last show,” Ina Treciokas, Katie’s rep tells FOX411. “She won’t be going with Tom to the Globes. The cast of All My Sons has been like a family and they want to end it together.”

So while Tom is flashing that big grin on the red carpet, Katie will be taking her final Broadway bow, at least for now. That leaves the question of who Tom will bring as a date. Maybe his mom, or a friend… but our vote is for Suri!

Tom Cruise ‘Surprised’ by Golden Globe Nomination

Tom Cruise was a guest on “The Tonight Show” Thursday night and the veteran actor spoke with Jay Leno about his Golden Globe nomination and his Broadway aspirations.

Tom admits he was “surprised” about the nomination for his comedic supporting role in ‘Tropic Thunder,’ because the role was unlike any character he’d played before.

He tells Jay he didn’t know when the nominations were being announced and jokes that his requirements for the role were; “I’ve got to have fat hands, and I want to dance!”

Tom also talked about his wife Katie Holmes who is currently performing on Broadway, and he reveals that he might like to try a little theater himself.

“I like making movies but I’m not saying no to Broadway,” he says. “I’d like to do a musical.”

The star also had some parting words for Jay about his move to primetime.

“Hey man congratulations you moved to ten o’clock,” Tom says. “What happened you just didn’t want to stay up that late, what’s the deal?”

Tom on his Golden Globe-nomination and his Les Grossman character

Tom and his Tropic Thunder character, Les Grossman

Tom Cruise: More of Les Grossman in the Works!

Forget Tom Cruise’s reaction to his Golden Globe nomination for his work in Tropic Thunder for a moment. Mr. Cruise can’t help but think of how his foulmouthed alter ego, Les Grossman, would react to the news.

“Les would probably say something unprintable,” Cruise told me today in an exclusive interview. “First thing when you hear about that character is, just what would that guy say? It would have to be something unprintable.”

And it sounds like this isn’t the last we’ve heard from the balding, hairy-chested studio boss. Read on for all the Grossman details…

“I’ve talked about doing different videos with the character,” Cruise said. “I’ve started working with Ben [Stiller] on it, and we’ve kind of talked about different things to do. We were gonna do some in our free time, but we haven’t found the free time…yet.”

He doesn’t rule out a full-length feature film centered on Grossman: “He’s a fun character,” said Cruise, who will next be seen in the real-life WWII thriller Valkyrie. “I gotta talk to Ben, but there could be more to do with that guy.”

Grossman’s future aside, Cruise said of the nomination, “I’m really thrilled. Kate called me, and family and friends. It’s just very exciting.”

Golden Globe Reactions: Brooke Shields Congratulates ‘Tremendous’ Tom Cruise

Brooke Shields, Tom Cruise

The Golden Globe nominations are in – and many of the new nominees are expressing their excitement, gratitude and surprise.
(…)
Brooke Shields, who rose early to help announce the nominations, was thrilled for friend Tom Cruise, who nabbed a Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy or Musical nod for his nearly-unrecognizable turn as a fat, balding movie executive in Tropic Thunder. “I’m so glad for him!” Shields told PEOPLE. “I think it’s ironic, all the work that he does [and] that’s what he gets nominated for. I think he’s done tremendous work so I think he’s probably chuckling about it too.”

Pitt’s admiration for Cruise

Brad Pitt would love to work with Tom Cruise again – and is a huge fan of his cameo role in Tropic Thunder.
The pair starred together in 1994 movie Interview With The Vampire and remained pals after filming had ended.
And Pitt is eager to work with Cruise again, because he is such a big fan of his films.
When asked if he’d co-star with Cruise again, he tells Extra, “Of course. He’s a friend of mine. He’s a strong one, that guy…I loved what he did in Tropic Thunder. The ending is hilarious.”

Tom also said something about Brad:

Cruise: ‘My pal Pitt was meant to be a father’

Brad Pitt got some early parenting practice for his future brood of six, by playing with Tom Cruise’s daughter Isabella on the set of their 1994 movie Interview with the vampire.
Cruise claims he knew Pitt was destined to have a big family, because he had a natural rapport with Isabella, then just one year old.
The Top Gun star tells People, “Every time Bella was on the set you could just tell he wanted to be a father.”
Pitt now has three biological children and three adopted kids with partner Angelina Jolie.

Tropic Thunder Premiere Report

Leicester Square goes totally tropical…

War huh? What is it good for? Well, judging by the reaction to the UK premiere of Tropic Thunder in London’s far-from-balmy Leicester Square, it’s at least good for a top-quality giggle.

The three stars of Ben Stiller’s action comedy, Robert Downey Jr, Jack Black and Stiller himself, were out in force amid a jungle of camouflage-clad models, friends and well-wishers to celebrate the movie’s launch.
For people yet to watch the film, the main talking point is Downey Jr’s portrayal of Method-espousing actor Kirk Lazarus. But for those who’ve been lucky enough to see the hilarious flick, all tongues were wagging about Tom Cruise’s slightly disconcerting cameo.

“He’s awesome, he’s hilarious and I’d work with him again in a second,” says Stiller of his A-lister buddy. “He’s been supportive of the movie from the beginning and it was great to have him in it.”

Does this foray into comedy mean that Stiller and Cruise’s long-mooted plans to make the Hardy Boys update, The Hardy Men, are coming to fruition?
“You know what we had a lot of fun working together so I hope so. We’ve got to get together on a script first but it’s definitely something we want to do.”

Stiller’s latest directorial effort is without a doubt his most ambitious effort yet, how did he cope with all the big bangs?

“Whenever you make a movie you wonder if you’re ever going to be able to get out of it but this was great,” he says. “I’ve been involved with lots of movies where you get to blow stuff up and luckily the explosions went well on this movie. The camera was rolling when it was supposed to be, so everything was cool.”
Jack Black, dapperly dressed in a weather-themed suit (“This jacket was my design, I said I wanted something with lightning and thunder to honour the movie but it looks a little bit like bird shit.”), is set to star next in Harold Ramis’ pre-historical comedy Year One (“It’s going to be very good. It’s a comedy… set in biblical times,” says Black helpfully) but he’s not ruling out a sequel to his latest release.

“I had a great time making this movie,” he says. “I hope there’s a Tropic Thunder 2; I think we could call it Arctic Lightning.”

Tropic Thunder is released in the UK on Friday.
