Mission: Impossible 5 Finale Reports False!

There’s some great news tonight for Mission: Impossible 5 fans as writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has responded to the reports from earlier today claiming that the ending of his upcoming action sequel would be reworked. Poking a bit of fun at The Hollywood Reporter, McQuarrie posted the following to his Twitter account, confirming that the original ending is moving forward even as we speak! Check out McQuarrie’s post below with the original story beneath.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production of Paramount’s hotly-anticipated Mission: Impossible 5 was shut down for a little over a week in London after the ending was deemed “unsatisfactory.”

Despite the film having its release moved up from Christmas to July 31, its star/producer/franchise caretaker Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie, as well as an uncredited/unpaid writer friend, were given the extra time to come up with a new finale that would “get from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place.”

The expensive decision to shut down production for a week–which results in cast and crew put into a paid holding pattern while doing no real work–is nothing compared to the catastrophic reshoots on Paramount’s World War Z, where director Marc Forster brought in top-shelf screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Drew Goddard to completely reconceive the last act, resulting in a huge amount of scrapped footage and 30 to 40 minutes of new material shot over seven weeks.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher), Mission: Impossible 5 also stars Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Simon McBurney and Rebecca Ferguson, featuring a screenplay by Will Staples and Drew Pearce.

Mission: Impossible 5 Set for Imax Release

Mission: Impossible 5 plot is still being kept under wraps, no images or trailer has been released. I’m curious! Anyway, this is good news!

“Mission: Impossible 5″ has been set for release in Imax theaters as part of its worldwide launch on July 31.

Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions, Bad Robot and Imax made the announcement Friday. The film will be digitally remastered into the Imax format.

Producers are Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. Christopher McQuarrie directs, with Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames reprising their roles. Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson and Sean Harris also star.

“Imax is so important in giving the audience the best experience of the film we have made,” Cruise said.

Paramount decided two weeks ago that it would move the release date forward by five months from Christmas to July 31.
