Germany Turns Down M:I-3 Parliament Filming

Reuters reports that Germany has turned down a request by Tom Cruise to shoot scenes for Mission: Impossible 3 in the famous Reichstag parliament building’s giant glass and steel dome. Cruise was in the capital last month to scout locations for the second sequel, which starts shooting later this year.

One of his favorite locations was the 130-feet diameter dome on the top of the parliament building, said a spokesman for the Studio Babelsberg production firm near Berlin, which is working with Cruise to find locations.

But the German parliament turned down the request to film there. “The building is not available as a film location and we refuse point blank every request to use it as such,” said a spokesman for Parliament President Wolfgang Thierse. “It is about maintaining the dignity of the parliament.”

As a German citizen I just like to throw in how stupid Germans are. Thank God, I always have considered myself as being an American although I don’t have any roots back there. But that’s enough from me – I’m just mad now. Germany can be lucky to say that Tom was interested in filming here but oh well.

  • Cast additions to MI3

Atkins & Kirk Join Mission: Impossible 3 Source: Variety Monday, May 3, 2004

Eileen Atkins and Justin Kirk have been added to the cast of Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 3, starring Tom Cruise.

Atkins, best known for her work on the British stage, will next be seen in Vanity Fair. Kirk starred in Angels in America. Narc director Joe Carnahan is helming the film produced by Cruise and Paula Wagner with production starting this summer for a May 2005 release.

Ving Rhames, Carrie-Anne Moss, Kenneth Branagh, and Scarlett Johansson also star.

  • A little more on the casting of Scarlet

Empire Online on the casting of Scarlet:

Scarlett Johansson has joined the cast of Mission: Impossible 3, with the Cruiser, Carrie-Anne Moss, Ving Rhames and Kenneth Branagh. Apparently she is going to play an “ally” of Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character, which puts her at high risk of being bumped off in the first five minutes of the film if past form is anything to go by. Johansson won the part after beating off every other young actress in Hollywood, virtually all of whom asked to be considered for it.

    More reconciliation stories?

According to TeenHollywood Penelope is desperate to get Tom back:

Spanish siren PENELOPE CRUZ is desperate to get ex-boyfriend TOM CRUISE back – after realizing her desire to become a top Hollywood actress was to blame for their split.
The sexy star has spent months in the African desert filming new movie Sahara – and has reportedly told the film’s crew she’s willing to do whatever it takes to reconcile with Cruise, who she split with in January.
An on-set source says, “Penelope is still deeply in love with Tom and believes he feels the same way about her but cannot cope with her excessive demands.
“She feels she has seen the light and will get him back when he realizes how much she blames herself for the break up.”
The actress has also denied rumors she was romancing co-star Matthew McConaughey on the set of the movie.
The source adds, “Tom knows the rumors of her romance with Matthew are nonsense and Penelope is determined to spell that out to him all over again.”

    askmen.com about this:
When Tom Cruise announced that he and Nicole Kidman were getting divorced in 2001, everyone tripped out because they just “seemed so happy.” The announcement came just before their 10th wedding anniversary.
Then, after we all took a moment to blink, Tom was humping his Vanilla Sky co-star Penelope Cruz. And considering Tom was just walking away from a second divorce, men across the world were sure that Penelope wouldn’t be getting a diamond any time soon.
Lo and behold, Cruise waved ba-bye to Cruz after three years together and now rumors are circulating that Tom and Nicole may be patching things up “for the sake of the children.” Then again, that might just be the press messing with you.
