‘Mission: Impossible III’ Tops US Box Office

The new Tom Cruise blockbuster ‘Mission: Impossible III’ has topped the US box office.

The film that also stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Jonathan Rhys Meyer made a massive £26million in ticket sales in its opening weekend.

Worldwide the film made £63million however; it has been considered a disappointment in comparison with the first two Mission Impossible films.

Back in the US new comedy ‘RV’ only needed to make £6million to win second place while ‘American Haunting’ came in third making £3.4million. (EntertainmentWise)

Slashfilm.com adds that the film took in over $70.3 million overseas at 7,390 playdates in 57 markers. Tom Cruise is apparently very popular in Asian markets, with South Korea alone accounting for $10.6 million in only 402 engagements. This makes M:I:III the UIP’s biggest opener ever in the market. To give you perspective, the first two Mission: Impossible films didn’t break $58 million overseas in opening weekend. Last summer’s big blockbuster, Batman Begins opened to $42 million in 73 markers (or $166 million when all was said and done).
