Katie Holmes wants to address the hottest subject of tabloid speculation about her.
“Well, I’m not pregnant right now,” she says in the April issue of Glamour, out March 10.

In the interview, which was done in early February, she also talks about husband Tom Cruise’s concern over how gossip might be affecting her: “We were changing diapers. He said, ‘I don’t want you to get upset.’ And I said, ‘Well, I am upset.’ So we approached it together. But I definitely felt like — as a woman, as the mother of Suri — I want to handle this.”

The couple will celebrate their third wedding anniversary this year. And Holmes, 30, says she would like to celebrate in Rome, “one of the first places we went together” and where they wed.

Globe-trotting is a regular feature of her life. After her Broadway turn in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons with John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson ended in January, she made headlines with her trips to Brazil and Disney World with her husband, 46, and their daughter, who turns 3 in April.

When they’re not traveling, life is routine. “We like to be together,” she says. They “play Yahtzee, board games, Scrabble. We grill, have pool parties. We play The Three Little Pigs, and Suri is the Big Bad Wolf.”

Cruise “reads storybooks to Suri, and we all laugh. When a good song comes on, he’ll break into dance. We’ll watch movies in bed — recently Madagascar and Cinderella, for Suri.”

But Holmes does say there’s one area in which she needs improvement. “I don’t really cook that much — eventually, I will. I do make cupcakes. And (Cruise) makes his pasta carbonara for me. He knows exactly how to do it: a pinch of this, a pinch of that. He has a recipe, but he also kind of (improvises).”

The actress, who is back in New York on the set of the comedy The Extra Man, might have to put cooking lessons on the back burner. Despite her busy schedule, she is working on a little-girls’ clothing line.

“My friend Jeanne Yang and I have been working together,” Holmes tells Glamour. “She’s got twin girls about 6 years old, and we both grew up with mothers who sewed. We started about a year ago, sketching different things, trying to find comfortable clothing for our daughters that is also pretty and cute. We just started, and we’ve played around with doing things for women as well.”

She also joked that she was destined to wed Tom, 46, after watching his blockbuster “Top Gun” as a giggly, little schoolgirl in 1986:

“When ‘Top Gun’ came out, my sisters were like, ‘Oh, my God, ‘Top Gun’! Tom Cruise!’ And I very confidently said, ‘I’m going to marry him one day,’ It wasn’t like, ‘How do I get to Tom Cruise?’ It was just, ‘I think I’m going to marry him. Why not? He’ll like me. I’m fun.’ ” said Holmes, who poses in costumes inspired by Broadway legend Bob Fosse.

Becoming a mother has allowed Katie Holmes to flex muscles she wasn’t even aware she possessed.

Motherhood, the parent of 2-year-old Suri Cruise tells Glamour magazine for April’s special 70th anniversary issue (on sale March 10), “has been the most amazing experience – in an instant you become strong. You have to be a little bit wiser; it’s the most important job in the world.”

Not that having a child wasn’t a formidable experience for Holmes, 30, and husband Tom Cruise, 46. “During the first couple of days [with Suri], we would just sleep right next to her to make sure she was breathing. And I was constantly learning on the job, but Tom was very helpful and supportive.”

Addressing Rumors
Asked about the rumors that were once swirling around the Cruise marriage – including one story that Suri didn’t exist at all – Holmes responds, “Some of the stuff [people said] was such absolutely horrible things to say about a child. It was so uncalled for and so disgusting. Enough is enough.”

In such instances, she says, Cruise, who was more accustomed to press coverage, was extremely helpful, says his wife.

“We were changing diapers. He said, ‘I don’t want you to get upset.’ And I said, ‘Well, I am upset.’ So we approached it together.” To those who write or report such things, Holmes says she’d like to tell them, “Why don’t you come over and have dinner? See what there is to see.”

Through such adversity Holmes also says she has developed a sense of self-reliance. “I definitely felt like – as a woman, as the mother of Suri – I want to handle this! My mom is very strong, and if anyone ever said anything about any of us, she would be, ‘Excuse’ me? That’s my family!”

Speaking of which, the Cruises are not about to add to theirs – at least for the moment. Asked about a current rumor, Holmes answers, “I’m not pregnant right now.”
