I’ve been getting some e-mails asking about premiere dates, some of you didnt noticed the appearences box is right below the top layout banner, maybe it’s because of the layout change and it might take a while to adjust. *Points top-right*

    Official Announcement Regarding Japan Premiere

Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise will be having its world premiere in Tokyo, Japan on Monday 13 June, Stewart Till, Chairman and CEO of UIP confirmed today in London.

The cancellation mistakenly reported today was simply a change of venue. UIP Japan had originally planned the world premiere at the Budokhan however then decided sometime ago to relocate to the Virgin Roppongi given its more central and convenient location.

Paul Takaki, President of UIP Japan said today that he is extremely proud to be hosting the world premiere and looks forward greatly to welcoming Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning to Japan for this spectacular event on 13 June.

Tom Cruise will continue the promotion of War of the Worlds through Europe with premieres in Berlin, Marseille, London and Madrid. War of the Worlds opens worldwide on June 29.

  • Phew, it seems that the news about the Japanese premiere being cancelled were false. Paramount released this statement:

“Please note that the story regarding the cancellation of the Japan Premiere of War of the Worlds is completely erroneous and the Japan premiere is still planned.

An official announcement will soon be made clarifying the event details.”

  • Bad news for Japanese fans! War of the Worlds Japan Premiere Cancelled Source: Associated Press June 4, 2005

The planned world premiere in Japan of director Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds has been canceled because of concerns about providing security for Tom Cruise and other stars and preventing bootleg recording of the film, reports the Associated Press.

The anticipated film, a contemporary retelling of H.G. Wells’s seminal classic, was set to debut at Tokyo’s Budokan arena on June 13, more than two weeks before its June 29 global release.

“To our regret, we have decided to cancel the showing because of safety concerns,” distributor UIP said in a statement.

  • The premiere has not been cancelled, just moved places.

  • Lastly, Tom is nominated for Best Actor (Collateral) at the teen choice awards.
