Tom Cruise’s ‘Valkyrie’ premieres in Berlin

Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes premiered his WWII thriller ‘Valkyrie’ in the homeland where it was filmed and its historic storyline took place — and ET was there! Tom was so busy signing autographs, posing for pictures and talking to the press; was he able to catch any of the inaugural excitement, including Barack Obama’s speech, in Washington D.C.?

“I’ve got it all on tape, so I’m going to be seeing the whole thing,” he assured us. “I’ve heard pieces of it also.”

In ‘Valkyrie,’ Tom plays real-life German hero Col. Claus Graf von Stauffenberg, who risked his life in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the height of World War II. The film is directed by Bryan Singer (‘The Usual Suspects,’ ‘X-Men,’ ‘Superman Returns’).

“This is a very exciting evening; we’ve been looking forward to this for two years since we first met on the film,” Tom tells ET. “It’s very special. I’m looking forward to experiencing it with this audience.”

‘Tom Cruise wants to promote ‘Valkyrie’ in India’

“The reaction in Germany is surprise at the level of accuracy in the film” and “Being a Jew myself, making the film at a place which is still haunted by World War II memories was very emotional for me” are some things Bryan Singer told about making ‘Valkyrie’. Read the rest of the interview and see what they did for the Stauffenberg family and how they feel about the movie.

Hollywood filmmaker Bryan Singer, who is currently on a promotional tour across Asia and Europe with superstar Tom Cruise for his Nazi thriller ‘Valkyrie’, has revealed that the actor is keen on visiting India to promote the film.

“Tom wants to go to India for the promotion. His daughter (Isabella, 16, adopted) has told him a lot about the country and he is eager to go there. India is also an emerging and growing market in terms of business for us,” Singer told IANS over phone from Seoul, South Korea.

“I’d also like the Indian audience to know that ‘Valkyrie’ is a true and extraordinary story. It’s an edge-of-the-seat assassination thriller and is the story of a neglected event in time,” added the director who is also contemplating visiting Japan and China as a part of the promotional tour.

Tom Cruise in Berlin for ‘Valkyrie’ premiere

“I would also have tried to kill Hitler like Stauffenberg!”

Hollywood star Tom Cruise has told BILD he would have tried to kill Hitler – just like Claus von Stauffenberg, who he plays in hit film ‘Valkyrie’, did in real life.

The actor made the revelations during an interview in the Los Angeles Beverley Hills Hotel. ‘TC’ sauntered into the restaurant – slim, sparkling teeth, wearing jeans, a jacket and an open shirt.

BILD: How are you, Tom?

Tom Cruise: Very, very well. I am excited!

Valykrie has already earned $71 million in 2,800 US cinemas in 18 days. The ‘Washington Post’ called it an “entertainment juggernaut.”

Tom has changed over the last years. He is still the $7 billion man – the box office total from his 25-year career – but he also has many other strings to his bow.

He is now a film mogul, financier, producer, world star and family man.

Tom Cruise visits BILD to talk about Valkyrie – and Germany

“You get the best beer and Wiener Schnitzel in Berlin”

Hollywood star Tom Cruise popped into the BILD offices in Berlin to discuss his new film ‘Valkyrie’, chat to staff and rave about German food!

The actor is in town for the European premiere of his new film on January 22 and took time to take a tour of the BILD editorial office. He charmed the staff by shaking hands with everyone and posing for photos.

He told an audience of BILD employees: “I feel honoured to be here. Whenever I come to Germany I always receive a really warm welcome.”

BILD’s editor-in-chief Kai Diekmann wanted to know why he decided to star in the film about Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg, who led a failed plot to assassinate Hitler.

“I wanted the world to know that there was a resistance to Nazism, that even then there were people who were against it. We wanted to pay respect to this resistance.”

When asked if this was the most important film he had ever done he replied: “Definitely”.

He also revealed what it is that he likes most about Berlin: “You get the best beer here – and the best Wiener Schnitzel.”
