Mission: Impossible 5 Director Christopher McQuarrie Reveals New Details

Some interesting questions have been answered by the Mission: Impossible 5 director Christopher McQuarrie, tweets are after the Read More link

Last we heard, Christopher McQuarrie was retooling the ending of Mission: Impossible 5, resulting in a bit of a delay. According to the director, that’s not really accurate. McQuarrie took to Twitter for a spontaneous Q&A, fielding questions from fans of the series. The director addressed that issue with the ending, which characters won’t be back (and which ones get more screen time) and when we can expect the film’s official title and trailer.

McQuarrie answered a lot of questions during his Mission: Impossible 5 Q&A on Twitter, but he still managed to avoid offering any specific plot details. There have to be some surprises, right? Most notably, McQuarrie says that Ving Rhames’ Agent Brandt will have more screen time, and confirms that Sean Harris is the villain. He also says that when we see the first trailer, we’ll understand what it is that McQuarrie included in this film that hasn’t been in any of the previous installments. That’s pretty exciting.

He also confirms that his Jack Reacher composer Joe Kraemer is delivering a “retro” score, and that neither Paula Patton nor Maggie Q were available to return. But he does suggest that Simon Pegg’s Benji will be much more active in the field this time around.

Mission: Impossible 5 Finale Reports False!

There’s some great news tonight for Mission: Impossible 5 fans as writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has responded to the reports from earlier today claiming that the ending of his upcoming action sequel would be reworked. Poking a bit of fun at The Hollywood Reporter, McQuarrie posted the following to his Twitter account, confirming that the original ending is moving forward even as we speak! Check out McQuarrie’s post below with the original story beneath.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production of Paramount’s hotly-anticipated Mission: Impossible 5 was shut down for a little over a week in London after the ending was deemed “unsatisfactory.”

Despite the film having its release moved up from Christmas to July 31, its star/producer/franchise caretaker Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie, as well as an uncredited/unpaid writer friend, were given the extra time to come up with a new finale that would “get from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place.”

The expensive decision to shut down production for a week–which results in cast and crew put into a paid holding pattern while doing no real work–is nothing compared to the catastrophic reshoots on Paramount’s World War Z, where director Marc Forster brought in top-shelf screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Drew Goddard to completely reconceive the last act, resulting in a huge amount of scrapped footage and 30 to 40 minutes of new material shot over seven weeks.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher), Mission: Impossible 5 also stars Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Simon McBurney and Rebecca Ferguson, featuring a screenplay by Will Staples and Drew Pearce.

Mission: Impossible 5 Set for Imax Release

Mission: Impossible 5 plot is still being kept under wraps, no images or trailer has been released. I’m curious! Anyway, this is good news!

“Mission: Impossible 5″ has been set for release in Imax theaters as part of its worldwide launch on July 31.

Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions, Bad Robot and Imax made the announcement Friday. The film will be digitally remastered into the Imax format.

Producers are Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. Christopher McQuarrie directs, with Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames reprising their roles. Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson and Sean Harris also star.

“Imax is so important in giving the audience the best experience of the film we have made,” Cruise said.

Paramount decided two weeks ago that it would move the release date forward by five months from Christmas to July 31.

Paramount Shifts ‘Mission: Impossible 5’ Release Date to Summer 2015

Oh! Mission: Impossible 5 gets an earlier release date!

Tom Cruise will be back in theaters as Ethan Hunt sooner than expected.

Paramount and Skydance Productions have moved up the release of Mission: Impossible 5 from Christmas Day of this year to July 31, 2015 — the same weekend used to launch Guardians of the Galaxy, proving that August can be a lucrative corridor for event films.

Since MI5 will be completed earlier than expected, the studio decided to distance the film from J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which rolls out in theaters Dec. 18. (Abrams, who directed Cruise in Mission: Impossible III, is a producer on MI5.)

MI5 also gets out of the way of MGM and Sony’s James Bond sequel Spectre, which opens Nov. 6, according to insiders.

In its new home, the latest installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise will go up against Alcon and Warner Bros.’ Point Break redux, as well as Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Christopher McQuarrie, who teamed with Cruise on Paramount’s Jack Reacher, directs MI5. The last film, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, released in December 2011, earned nearly $650 million globally, a franchise best.
