On the four occasions they have disagreed, the PGA winner has been at least an Oscar nominee and has arguably been a better film than the eventual Oscar winner)

Empire Online also has something on Iron Man. They also have an article in their magazine, so if you can pick it up and scan the February issue, yes please!

I also want to thank everybody for their support of this site and the editors, thanks! It’s really encouraging and stimulates to keep searching for news.

And for whoever wants to know: No, Tom didn’t join Nicole in Fiji (smh.com.au).

    Some nice things

C/W Productions is going to produce the movie ‘Ask the dust’, with actors Colin Farrell and Salma Hayek (source Yahoo! News).
On the ‘Moneymaking Poll’ Tom made it at no. 2: “Jim Carrey has been voted the top moneymaking star of 2003 in Quigley Publishing Company’s 71st Annual Top Ten Money-Making Stars Poll. Carrey, who has placed in the top ten five times and been runner-up in three of those, had never won until this year. He finishes ahead of all time box office champion Tom Cruise, who has appeared on the list fifteen times and held the number one position six times, and Tom Hanks who won in 2002 and who has had five wins in the nine years he has been voted into the top ten., according to zap2it.
I also found an article about the book ‘Bushido: The Soul of Japan’ – the book Tom used to prepare for his role in The Last Samurai. Go read it at Daily Yomiuri Online.
The Australian site smh.com.au has an article on samurai movies; The way of the warrior, but it doesn’t say much about Tom’s movie.
Entertainment Online has finally updated their website so now we can find articles much easier!! Here is a link to all the recent stories, it’s a lot so take your time!
And last but not least we now know the name of Tom’s hair dresser; L’Wren Scott, according to Hollywood Inside.

    Another enthousiastic TLS review

CNN has a top 10 films of 2003. About TLS it says:
“The Last Samurai” is a huge epic starring Tom Cruise in one of his best roles in years. Set in the 1870s, the film is beautifully executed by director Ed Zwick. Cruise plays a weary Civil War veteran who goes to Japan to help modernize its military and to help rid the country of the last of the Samurai warriors. Instead, his character is drawn into the Samurai code of honor. As a result, he experiences a renewed belief in respect, sacrifice and the human spirit. There are certain plot points that are similar to “Dances With Wolves,” and some cynics are calling this film “Dances With Sushi,” but such an assessment is really not fair. This film is actually much better than Kevin Costner’s 1990 Oscar winner. < -- Yeah, mark that last line!!
From MSNBC comes the review ‘Last Samurai’ is a handsome epic

    Actor’s Studio

    From Bravo TV
Premieres Sunday, January 11 at 8/7 PM

Also in January, Tom Cruise, one of America’s most well loved actors, joins James Lipton on Inside the Actors Studio. Cruise, who began his teenage years studying to be a priest, soon found another calling – acting. From his film debut with a small part in Endless Love, it took him only two short years to land the starring role in Risky Business, a role for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination. Cruise’s subsequent films include Top Gun, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire, and Mission Impossible. His performances have earned him three Oscar nominations and three Golden Globe wins. Cruise can be seen most recently in the film The Last Samurai.

    Tom’s Christmas plans

Note to chantal. I don’t think it’s very accurate, however, this might be

Movie superstar Tom Cruise, who has been living with his sister and her three children for much of this year, is hoping to show off his culinary skills this Christmas by treating his sister and her family to a terrific turkey dinner.
Tom famously cooked up spaghetti Carbonara on his first date with Penelope Cruz.

Tom says, “I can cook. I’ve cooked turkeys in my day. I hope to this year, unless my mom’s around. My mother is a great cook and when she’s around I like her stuffing best with her turkey.”

Tom says, “One of the best Christmases I had as a kid was when we didn’t buy each other stuff. My mother came up with this idea to pick names out of a hat and for a month you had to do something special for that person and then on Christmas day you had to write a poem or a story for that person.

And you couldn’t reveal who it was, so all five of us were running around doing things.

“I had my sister so I had to go and make her bed when she was in the shower because you can’t get caught. It was fantastic.”

HOLA! magazine also reported that Penelope’s parents would be joining her and Tom on christmas!

And a merry christmas to all of the Cruisers out there 🙂

    Holiday plans

Nothing to find on Tom these days. Only this: Tom apparently has to work during the holidays, according to Newsweek: “Tom will be shooting a movie in Los Angeles over the holidays – he won’t be able to be with his children or Nicole.” says his rep. So I guess he won’t be staying on Wakaya Island after all.

    More Golden Globes..

Tom’s interview with ET moments after his GG nod:

After six Golden Globe nominations and 3 wins, Tom Cruise sure knows how to make an entrance. Tom choppered in just after sunrise, but on his way over with his little chat with Jann, he discovered, he was locked in.

    Tom: I’ll just climb over

No problem for Tom Terrific, he perceeded to do what any true-blue action star would do — he scaled a six-foot spiked fence.

Jann– Now first of all, that entrance. Does it get more Hollywood than that? The samurai workin’ out? It obviously paid off climbing the fence

Tom: I can climb the fence. Not very graceful, but I got over it.

Jann: One moment, was there ‘god I hope I get over this fence?’

Tom: Most definetely. That moment I was thinking you know, my right foot is slipping through those bars. I was just happy I made it over.

    Jann: We all were

Tom: I rather be lying on the pavement there than on top of that.

Jann: Yeah..that would be a terrible shot in the front page of the paper.

Tom: That would just wouldn’t be good. You know what, I wouldn’t be as concerned about the shot, I’d be more concerned about other things at that particular moment.

Tom celebrated his best actor nomination with a call from his Last Samurai co-star and best supporting actor nominee- Ken Watanabe. He dialed long distance from Osaka, Japan.

Tom(talking to Ken on the phone): You know, I have a few cameras around here

    Laughter from the press

Tom: I’m gonna call you- can I call you back in about 10 minutes?

Jann: This is your 6th nomination. That’s pretty-

    Tom: That’s not bad. 6 isn’t bad. That’s good.

Jann: You know, it’s just the begining.

Tom: We’re just gettin’ rollin’ here.

Jann: We’re just gettin’ warmed up. The kids have got to be, when the wake up and hear this- so proud. Mom and Dad nominated! I mean, you know, that’s pretty cool.

Tom: I don’t, you know, as I said, in our house it’s a nice thing. It’s a great thing when it happens. They are a little more casual you know. “Oh good” you know “Let’s go play. Let’s hang out”

    Golden Globes..

More on Golden Globes and Tom’s reaction here and watch a video here.

“After his nod for “The Last Samurai,” three-time winner Tom Cruise landed in a helicopter at the Santa Monica Airport, and jumped the fence to share his excitement with us.

Cruise said, “It’s wonderful, it’s wonderful. I don’t make films to get these kinds of awards, but every time it’s like icing on the cake.”

And Cruise told us that he couldn’t be happier about his ex-wife Nicole Kidman’s nomination for “Cold Mountain,” a movie that received eight nominations without being released yet. Cruise said, “I’m very proud of her, she is a great actress”

Screen caps from his GG reaction tonight.
