Cruise considers trio of films

Tom Cruise appears to be gearing up for life after Paramount. According to Variety, he is currently weighing up three features: two Hollywood blockbusters and one indie picture.
These would be his first forays on screen since Paramount studio unceremoniously ditched him last August for his colourful off-screen antics.

The indie film in consideration is Lions for Lambs, a political drama about US soldiers in Afghanistan. Cruise has been asked to play a congressman, alongside Meryl Streep, who would play a journalist. Robert Redford is considering directing the film and playing a part. Lions for Lambs is written by Matthew Carnahan, the US TV writer who is adapting the BBC series State of Play for the silver screen.

Cruise is also considering starring in The Ha-Ha, a drama about a Gulf war veteran rendered mute by his injuries who must look after a nine-year-old whose mother has disappeared.
Finally, the War of the Worlds actor could star in Spike Lee’s next film, Selling Time, a drama about a man who sells parts of his life for a chance to change the worst day of his life. Lee has met with Cruise several times and is working on a re-write of the film’s script.

Of course, there are no guarantees that Cruise will appear in these movies. Earlier this year, he was linked to three films, but ended up not taking any of the offers up. He was set to work on a western called 3:10 to Yuma (which now stars Russell Crowe and Christian Bale), a romantic adventure film called Fool’s Gold (which will now star Matthew McConaughey, and a thriller called Two Minutes to Midnight, which is still in development.
