Tom & Katie at the ‘Lions for Lambs’ premiere

Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep and Robert Redford hit the red carpet Thursday night in Hollywood to premiere their new political thriller, ‘Lions for Lambs’ — and ET was there!

Tom was accompanied by his wife Katie Holmes, who was there to show her support. Tom told ET, “Its always better with her…she’s exceptional.”

In theaters Nov. 9, ‘Lions for Lambs’ finds Cruise as a charismatic presidential hopeful whose bombshell story for a probing journalist (Streep) could potentially affect the fates of two California college students who were inspired by their professor, Dr. Stephen Malley (Redford), to fight in Afghanistan.

Directed by Redford, the film also stars Derek Luke and Michael Pena.

Go to ET Online to watch a video clip of all the actors on the red carpet! While you’re there, maybe you’d also like to watch ET’s video clips of Tom talking about his wedding day (in Italy, October 23rd) and about the proposal while being in Paris again (October 25th).

Cruise meets fans at launch of Afghan-themed film & pictures

Mon Oct 22, 7:53 PM ET

LONDON (Reuters) – Film star Tom Cruise spent more than two hours signing autographs and greeting fans in London on Monday at the world premiere of his new movie “Lions for Lambs,” Hollywood’s latest examination of U.S. foreign policy.

“Lions for Lambs,” which follows a slew of films related to the war in Iraq and the U.S. military response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, is about two soldiers serving in Afghanistan and political intrigue back in the United States.

Directed by Robert Redford and also starring Meryl Streep, the film has been branded “anti-war” by some media, and its backers are hoping its controversial subject matter will boost it at the box office and going into the awards season.

“I think that films like this are interesting and important and I think it’s anyone’s place if they want to do it,” Cruise told Reuters on the red carpet ahead of the premiere at the London Film Festival.

“We are free to communicate about anything we want and any subject we want, so I think it’s absolutely correct.”

Asked if he studied any politician in particular for his role as an ambitious senator, 45-year-old Cruise said:

“I studied many. I’ll never tell exactly who, but there’s many months of research that went into this character to not make him into a caricature but into a human being with real problems and to reflect that idea.”

Streep, who plays a journalist in “Lions for Lambs,” was not at the premiere, while Redford avoided the media glare and slipped into the cinema via the back entrance.

The film is due to open in U.S. cinemas on November 9. (Source: Yahoo! News)

Tom Cruise Surprises Fans Outside Theater

Tom Cruise stunned hundreds of suburbanites outside the Picture House Theater in Pelham, N.Y. last night when he emerged from a screening and met with fans.

The world’s biggest movie star got up close and personal after a screening of his new wartime drama, “Lions for Lambs,” as he signed autographs and posed for countless pictures.

It was a solo night for Tom, though, as wife Katie Holmes stayed away from the screening and instead took a stroll with baby Suri. (Source: Extra)

Many stars to shine at Rome film festival

Many world famous film stars including Sophia Loren, Sharon Stone and Tom Cruise will light up this year’s second edition of the Rome Cinema Festival, organizers said Thursday.

Among the starts are also Cate Blanchett, Keira Knightley, Halle Berry, Monica Bellucci, Robert Redford and Sean Penn.

Blanchett will be the first to hit the red carpet on Oct. 19 in a reprise of her acclaimed 1998 Elizabeth I portrayal in visionary Indian director Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

Loren will bring the curtain down on Oct. 27 as she receives a career achievement award, Italian News Agency ANSA said on Thursday.

In between, an array of would-be blockbusters and more arty fare from 40 countries will bid to draw at least as many viewers as the half million spectators the inaugural edition attracted.

Rome’s film-buff mayor Walter Veltroni, who achieved his dream of bringing a major movie event to the Italian capital despite sneers from the cinema establishment and controversy over a clash with the Venice festival, said Thursday, “This year is going to be even better”.

There will be 14 films competing for the top Marcus Aurelius prize, including two Italian films – Carlo Mazzacurati’s “la Giusta Distanza” and Emidio Greco’s “L’Uomo Privato”.

Also in contention are two Spanish films – “Barcelona” and “Una Mapa and Caotica Ana”; “Fugitive Pieces from Canada”; China’s “Li Chun”; and an Iranian-Japanese production, “Hafez”.

Among the festival’s special events are a focus on India with new films such as Anurag Kashyap’s “No Smoking” and a look at new socially and environmentally conscious movies from Hollywood such as Penn’s “Into The Wild”.

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Face Photo Frenzy in Saint-Tropez

Tom and Katie in Saint-Tropez
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s unexpected midnight visit to flashbulb capital Saint-Tropez kicked off what one veteran paparazzi dubbed “a genuine photo-riot.”

The couple drew crowds Friday night in a scene that VIP Room clubowner Jean Roch calls “crazy, crazy, crazy. It was an amazing surprise. There were maybe 500 to 600 people gathered outside when they tried leaving. It was like word of mouth had spread all along the Cote d’Azur.”

Inside the club, Cruise and Holmes “danced the entire night together,” says Roch. “When they weren’t dancing they were holding hands.”

Holmes, wearing a light-weight black dress embroidered with ruby-colored stones, and a jeans-clad Cruise appeared relaxed and friendly with the surprised photographers outside. Holmes even told one of them, “It’s great [to be in Saint-Tropez].”

The couple, who were cruising the Mediterranean with billionaire friends James and Erica Packer onboard the Australian honeymooners’ yacht the Arctic P., sailed into the waters during the late afternoon, according to observers. At midnight, the quartet came ashore at a small beach near the Papagayo restaurant, got into cars and headed to the VIP Room.

Just a day earlier, the couple made a stir in Corsica, where they headed out for pizza with a group of friends.

Still, it was the couple’s exit that left an impression on clubowner Roch, who also hosted Eva Longoria and Tony Parker’s bachelor party and Diddy’s annual fete. “Last night was one of the biggest crowds we’ve ever seen. But we hope to do even better tonight. George Clooney’s coming.” (People, August 4, 2007)

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Go Yachting on the Mediterranean

Another yacht sighting is nothing special to those along Corsica’s southern port of Bonafacio but vacationing pedestrians still did a double-take around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Being brought ashore by a yacht tender: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

The couple, enjoying a Mediterranean cruise that included some jet-skiing in Sardinia, led six friends to an outdoor portside dinner at Corsica’s Pizzeria des Amis.

“Katie wore this sexy red tunic, but I hardly recognized him,” says one eyewitness, “because his hair is cut so short.”

The Cruise crop is for his role in the WWII drama Valkyrie, now shooting in Europe. Earlier this week, Holmes and 15-month-old daughter Suri Cruise were seen visiting Tom on location in Potsdam, Germany.

The Cruise-Holmes pizza party of eight stayed until 12:30 a.m.

After that, and before heading back to their yacht, the star attractions posed for photos and signed a number of autographs for the crowd that gathered around them. (People, August 3, 2007)
