WPXi-TV - December 20th, 2012Tom Cruise was in Pittsburgh on Wednesday for a screening of his new film “Jack Reacher.”

The screening took place at the South Side Works Cinema.

Cruise briefly introduced the film that was shot in Pittsburgh last year.

“I hope that you’re proud of the way your city looks. I’m proud of the way it looks. I think it’s stunning. I think it’s a beautiful city. I just really want to thank you all very much because you can’t make a movie unless you have the help of the community. I wish you a very merry Christmas and best of New Year,” Cruise said.

Many of the crew members who worked on the film are from Pittsburgh. Director Christopher McQuarrie thanked them.
“It was a difficult shoot. It was a long shoot, a very cold shoot. The schedule was very tight, and I’ve never seen people work harder or have a more positive attitude in the face of that sort of adversity. This is really your film as much as anyone else’s,” McQuarrie said.

A red carpet premiere scheduled for last Saturday was canceled following the school shooting in Connecticut.
Paramount Pictures released the following statement:

“Due to the terrible tragedy in Newtown, Conn., and out of honor and respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken, we are postponing tomorrow’s Pittsburgh premiere of ‘Jack Reacher.’ Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones.”

Cruise spent a week at WPXI-TV, using the station’s chopper pad while filming the movie initially called “One Shot.” See associated stories, videos and photos.

“Jack Reacher” is set to open in theaters Friday.
